John K. Crout

In 1997, John began a distinguished career as a criminal prosecutor for both Charleston county and the state of South Carolina. Between 1997 and 2002, he was a prosecutor for the Ninth Judicial Circuit. From 2002 until 2005, he held the position of assistant attorney general in the State Grand Jury Division of the Attorney General’s Office. In 2005, John returned to private practice with Clawson & Staubes, concentrating in the areas of commercial law and bankruptcy.

 

John is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Charleston County Bar and is admitted to appear before the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

 

John was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated with departmental honors from the Citadel in 1989 with a bachelor degree in political science. He attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and received his juris doctorate in 1992. John moved to Charleston after completing law school and began his practice in the areas of commercial law, bankruptcy and health care law.

 

John is a past board member of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, a graduate of the Chambers’ Leadership Charleston program, and a past president of the Leadership Charleston Alumni Association.

 

John lives in Charleston, South Carolina where he enjoys boating, fishing, and studying history and international politics.
