Kathy Woodward Simons

Kathy has tried many cases before judges and juries in South Carolina courts over the last fifteen years. Due to the commitments and needs of her young family, she currently practices from home, and specializes in settlements requiring court approval, such as minor and wrongful death settlements.

After clerking for the Hon. William T. Howell of Walterboro from 1990-1991 while he served on the Circuit Court bench, Kathy joined the Berkeley County Solicitor's office in 1991, where she tried cases ranging from driving under the influence to criminal sexual conduct. She joined Clawson & Staubes in 1995. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the American Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association.

A native of Charleston, Kathy graduated from the University of South Carolina Honor's College in 1987 with a double major in English and French and a minor in music. She obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1990, where she served on the Moot Court.

Kathy is married and lives in Mt. Pleasant with her husband Carlton and four children. She is a charter member in a group of mothers who have children with autism, is a co founder of Camp Learning Fun (a camp for children with autism and typical peers), serves on the board of Porter-Gaud school and is the current president of the Porter-Gaud Alumni Association. In the past she has enjoyed singing with the Charleston Symphony and the choir in her church, St. Philips Episcopal Church. She enjoys gardening, flower arranging and writing.
