NEW YORK BAR ASSOCIATION
Samuel R. Clawson of Clawson & Staubes, LLC was a featured lecturer in December to 175 members of the New York
Bar Association for Bridging the Gap. This program is required for all newly admitted lawyers to the New York Bar.
Clawson spoke on direct and cross-examinations of lay witnesses.
This is the second year that Clawson has been invited to lecture at this seminar. Last year Clawson joined with
Judge Joseph Gerace, a New York Supreme Court Judge, in presenting a lecture on summary jury trials.
Clawson has served as the managing member of Clawson & Staubes, LLC for the past 20 years. He is active in the tort
defense of individuals, partnerships and corporations. Since 1980, he has tried numerous cases each year for a variety
of different insurers.
A certified mediator, Clawson has an interest in alternative dispute resolution. He was a pioneer in the development of
binding summary jury trials as an alternative to binding arbitrations, and lectures frequently on the topic. He recently
was featured in the national edition of Lawyers Weekly, explaining the summary jury trial procedure in South Carolina.
Clawson graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina with a degree in government in 1970. He
received his law degree cum laude from the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in 1980.
Clawson & Staubes, LLC has been providing legal services to the Charleston area for 30 years and is based on Daniel
Island with a North Carolina office in Charlotte. Clients range from large insurance companies to local, small
business owners. The firm currently employs 29 attorneys and 55 support staff.
